WHAT IS THE COMEDY SKETCH CONTEST

The Comedy Sketch Contest is a video contest with participants having six hours to write, film, edit, and submit a sketch with a given prompt. Think 48 hour film festival, but sketch comedy only. The contest brings together comedians, improvisers, writers and film makers from Columbus and beyond to create a sketch. Individuals and groups are both welcome to sign up.

Just want to watch? Wind down your Comedy Fest weekend by checking out the results at MadLab on Sunday September 7 at 4pm.

Each team will be given two lines that need to be used in the sketch, and will be required to turn in their sketch through a link provided during the kickoff meeting by 6pm on August 31, 2025.


CONTEST TIMELINE

A kickoff meeting with a contest overview, rules and breakdown for all participants will take place at MadLab Theatre on August 31 at 11am. After the kickoff meeting, contestants will go straight into writing, filming and editing With the screening on September 7th at 4pm.

The screening, commentary, judging and award ceremony will all take place the following week during the Columbus Comedy Festival (more info on the screening below).

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Everyone is welcome! Are you a comedian, writer, actor, improviser, or just wanting to get involved in sketch comedy? Individuals are welcome to sign up and will be assigned a team, and groups are wecome to sign up together. Sign up for the contest by August 29, 2025 here!

WHERE CAN WE SEE THE SKETCHES?

The sketches (filmed during the contest on August 31) will be screened during the 2025 Columbus Comedy Festival at MadLab on Sunday, September 7 at 4pm. The screening will include a panel of judging, live commentary, and awards given in the categories defined below. Secure your tickets for the screening here!
